Orthodontics with Braces

Computer-Aided Orthodontics

With technological advances, orthodontists can rely on new tools for orthodontic treatments in order to increase precision and achieve predictable results.

The workflow is completely digital, it begins with an intraoral scan of the patient’s mouth and a computerized axial tomography, both the tomography and the scanner are joined and analyzed in special orthodontic software where the position of each tooth is located and sectioned . The teeth are analyzed for spaces and occlusion, finally it is compared with an ideal arch and a report is generated where a treatment plan is proposed.

With this information, the orthodontist chooses the appropriate brackets and arches for the patient, and performs a virtual placement of the brackets on the scanned teeth. The software simulates the effect that the position of each bracket would have on the movement of the tooth, once the orthodontist is satisfied with the location of all the brackets, a transfer guide is designed that will be manufactured in a 3D printer, with this guide the brackets will be placed on the patient’s teeth exactly in the position that the orthodontist calculated with the software, the process It is called indirect placement.

Subsequently, the orthodontist will monitor the evolution of the treatment and will decide on a new study if significant deviations from the initial treatment plan are found.

Before finishing the treatment, the patient’s mouth is scanned again to make a virtual removal of the brackets and manufacture the retainers that will be used when the orthodontic treatment ends. This is also an important advance since traditionally the brackets were removed and two weeks The retainers were then placed, enough time for the teeth to move to their original position.

Damon Braces

For our treatments we have chosen the Damon Braces from the commercial house Ormco because they are one of the best on the market, its low friction technology allows the bracket to slide to release efforts when accommodating the teeth, which translates into a reduction in time. of treatment and greater comfort for the patient.

It has two versions: Damon Q and Damon Clear, both work under the same principle only that the Damon Clear version is for aesthetic use as it is transparent.

The arch wire also has advanced technology, it is made of an alloy that allows it to be flexible when cold for easy installation and is activated in the mouth when the temperature reaches 40°C, it hardens and takes the programmed shape.

Traditional braces use elastics or active clips that “lock” the arch, braking it avoiding the movement of the braces which has an indiserable efect. The elastics and active clips used to hold the arch can act like car handbrakes, causing friction and pressure, which can slow down treatment and make it more uncomfortable.

Damon System braces use a passive capping mechanism that keeps the archwire inside the bracket while allowing it to move freely. This reduces friction so the teeth move quickly and more comfortably.
