The third molar or wisdom teeth are the last teeth to erupt in the back of the mouth. Their location and position makes their hygiene difficult or limited, so cavities and pericoronitis are very common, causing annoying pain and bad odor. In some cases it is better to remove them through surgery.

In orthodontic treatments, they are often removed to distalize the molars.
